“There are gems, there are crystals, and then there’s Swarovski.” We couldn’t have said it better our self... Swarovski is in a league of its own – its glass, but not just any old piece of glass, it is luxury lead glass at its best. It has a very similar shine to diamonds (at a fraction of the cost) and is therefore perfect for jewellery. The Swarovski glass has been made for over 100 years and they still use the same secret family formula as they did in the beginning. Once the glass is solid, it can be made into thousands of different products using the special patent cutting machine which Daniel Swarovski designed in 1892.

The special cutting machine makes it possible to design equal sizes crystals looking just like diamonds, but at a fraction of the cost. In 2014 Mercedes-Benz covered their SL600 in over 200,000 Swarovski crystals, you can also get a mobile cover with Swarovski silver (as they are often referred to), pens, paperweights, earrings, pendants, rings, beads, elements, well any type of jewellery you can imagine really, a pair of serious bling-bling shoes, perhaps a dress similar to the one worn by Rihanna in 2014, or how about a “diamond” necklace for your cat or dog? They are also quite famous for their crystal glass sculptures and miniature where they have quite a few collections to choose from; anything from animals to flowers to Disney characters.
It is only your imagination that the limit when it comes to Swarovski crystals, and this is why Chanel, Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Ray-Ban and many more have used them in their designs and on the catwalks. It’s bound to get you noticed when you sparkle!

Is Swarovski the same as diamonds? No, in short, it is not. Swarovski is a man made product, whereas diamonds are a precious stone. It can however be difficult to see the difference between the two as the very high craftsmanship that goes into cutting a Swarovski crystals gives it a high refractive index similar to that found in a real diamond. And this is often why Swarovski is also known as diamond imitation.

In 2011 Swarovski launched their first female perfume, Aura. It was inspired by the reflections you would get though their skilfully crafted crystals. The scent is a soft feminine composition with streaks of musk and citric freshness. The cylinder bottle contains a single beautiful asymmetrical cut crystal at the top and the scent in itself is a pale pink. Something you would want to be seen on your perfume shelf.

The logo for Swarovski is a swan which it has been since 1988.
