L'Occitane en Provence Perfume & Women's Fragrance

It all started with 23 year old Olivier Baussan selling his own distilled Rosemary essential oil on local markets in Provence. In 1976 he officially started his company which from then on took moderate, but noticeable steps. The first small boutique was opened in 1981, whereas now they have over 2,700 boutiques across the globe.

In 1990 L'Occitane received their fragrance merchant licence and started experimenting with different natural aroma's. After producing several men's fragrances, they launched their first fragrance that was solely catered to women, Neroli Eau de Parfum, in 1999. Even now, this rich and dark scent is still among favourites by perfume enthusiasts. Even though L'Occitane started with only men's fragrances, their focus has certainly shifted as their collection of lady fragrances counts 80+ variations.

L'Occitane's main focus still lies on skin care and for good reason. Their Immortelle Divine Cream has received multiple awards, i.a, The “Best Miracle Cream” by the Beauty Bible, “Best Skin Care” by Venus and “Innovation Price” by Avantus.

It is remarkable how involved this company is with charities. The L'Occitane Foundation was created in 2006. This foundation has two main focuses which are being able to support and help people who suffer from blindness (the labels of their products have Braille on them as well) and the economic emancipation of women. In 2010 they started their partnership with Aide et Action (Changing the world through Education) to support women in literacy centres in Burkina Faso.
