Mäurer & Wirtz Cologne & Men's Fragrance

Mäurer & Wirtz was founded in 1845 by Michael Mäurer and stepson Andreas Wirtz. Their first business venture was in Aachen, Germany, where they produced soaps and detergents. The Mäurer & Wirtz has expanded since the 19th century and they are now manufacturing detergents, soap products, perfumes and cosmetics. Between the three business divisions Beauty, Prestige and 4711 is 4711 by far the most popular. 4711 is a token fragrance from the last couple of centuries with its citrus, aromatic notes.

After all these years the business is still partly family owned which is quite a feat. In 2014 the 4711 fragrances celebrated its 222nd birthday and only a couple of years before the 4711 Acqua Colonia (2009) unisex collection was launched with over 10 different ingredient combinations in its range. Legend has it that the original nose behind 4711 Wilhelm Mülhens was gifted a bottle of miracle water as a wedding gift. This water was gifted to him by a Carthusian monk and would later become the 4711 Cologne as we know it. 4711's flag ship store, situated on Glockenglasse, is a popular tourist attraction for the fragrance enthusiast. The aromatic men's fragrance contains citrusy accents of orange oil and lemon.
Another steady favourite, and perhaps the reason why they are so popular still, is the original Tabac fragrance that hit the markets in 1955. In fact, it is so popular that the fragrance itself has its own Wikipedia page. They have now expanded the Tabac range to include Eau de Toilette's, Eau de Cologne's, shaving soap, aftershave and deodorant.

With now over 170 years of experience in their branch and stores in 140 Mäurer & Wirtz has come a long way, but is nowhere near its end. It continues to grow by acquiring different brands such as Strellson, Baldessarini and many more to come.
